What is The Stations of the Cross Trail?
The Stations of the Cross Trail is a collaborative project that sits at the intersection of art and theology.
It combines artists of differing mediums in a unique exploration and interpretation of the 14 stations.
The trail is located on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina and invites Protestants, Catholics, believers, and nonbelievers to navigate the stations together considering the traditional Roman Catholic Stations and United Methodist Stations alongside each other.
Each stop on the trail has an artistic interpretation to observe and consider.
This project asks the question:
Can art inspire believers and nonbelievers to experience the Passion of Christ in a way that
1) Comforts and challenges preconceived notions of the story of Christ,
2) Generates authentic relational responses, and
3) Initiates or renews a personal and/or communal relationship with Christ?
