How to Navigate the Stations
Visit the About page for a history of the stations & The Route for the locations.
Each station presents Catholic and Methodist Stations with a single artistic interpretation. Many Catholic Stations developed through tradition rather than the accounts within the Gospels. As such, those stations are presented with Scripture passages from outside the Gospels.
The Station in conversation with the art piece is denoted by an asterisk * with the Scripture in red.
Both sets overlap as they describe the same journey with slightly different timelines & emphases. If a station was present in both (ie. Simon Carrying the Cross) we made sure an artistic interpretation of that station was included somewhere along the trail.
How to follow the stations? Choose your own path.
1) Follow the stations represented by the artists.
2) Follow one set of stations or the other and notice how the art informs that path.
3) Read both.
4) Create your own journey.
The Stations are not created to be comfortable or easily understood, they are artistic interpretations of difficult passages in Scripture. They may challenge you. You may not “get it,” you may have to go back to the piece a few times. You may wonder if you see is what the artist intended. That’s what we do with Scripture too, with parables, with the words and life of Jesus. Come open and curious, and see what occurs.
